Overcladding
Overcladding fits a new outer skin over roofs and walls that have gone past their best, so there's no full strip-out and your building stays watertight and trading while we work.

When overcladding is the right call
Overcladding is for the roof or wall that's worn out on top while the structure underneath is still sound. You'll know the signs before we do: heat loss you can feel, corroding sheets, and water getting through the laps where one sheet sits over the next. It usually starts while the building is still in daily use.
Which one you need depends on what the survey finds. It might be roof overcladding, wall overcladding, or both, with an insulation upgrade built into the new layer if the building is losing heat. You'll hear it called over roofing too, and that's the same job. New flashings and verges go on with it, so you're not left with old edges against a new skin.
It starts with the survey. We go up and work out whether what's already there can carry a new skin. If it can't, we'll tell you and price the replacement instead, because there's no sense hanging a new roof on something that's finished. Where it is sound, you get the overclad refurbishment in writing before anyone starts: the system, the programme and the price.

What we cover
Roof and wall overcladding services
There's more to an overcladding job than fixing new panels over old ones. Here's everything that's included, and all of it is planned around keeping your building open while we work.

Substrate survey and condition check
We inspect the existing roof or wall, supporting structure and fixings to make sure it is suitable for an additional outer skin.

Roof overcladding
We install a new profiled or composite outer layer over a suitable existing roof, improving weather performance and allowing insulation to be upgraded at the same time.

Wall overcladding
We install new cladding over suitable existing wall sheets to improve the appearance and weather performance of the elevation while reducing disruption.

Insulation upgrade
Additional insulation can be built into the overcladding system to improve the thermal performance of an older roof or wall.

Detailing and weathering
We renew flashings, verges, eaves, penetrations and other perimeter details so the new system is properly weathered and integrated.

Systems we install
Cladco, Coverworld and Euroclad systems, installed over a suitable existing substrate and specified for the project.

Our Process
How an overcladding job runs
Five steps take it from the substrate survey to the written guarantees, and your building stays in use the whole way through.

Survey and substrate check
We inspect the existing roof or wall and confirm that the purlins and sheets can take the additional load and fixings. Any issues with the existing covering, including asbestos cement, are identified before the project is agreed.

Written specification with programme and price
We design the overcladding build-up around the existing structure, using systems from Cladco, Coverworld or Euroclad, with the insulation upgrade and target U-values set out in the written specification.

Access, safety and keeping you trading
Access is planned around how the building is used, with IPAF and PASMA trained operatives. Where sound asbestos cement is staying in place, it is encapsulated rather than disturbed.

New outer skin and insulation fitted
The new roof or wall sheets are installed over the existing structure and the agreed insulation is incorporated into the build-up. Flashings, edges and penetrations are then completed so the new envelope works as one system.

Sign-off and written guarantees
We inspect the completed work with you and provide the relevant manufacturer guarantee and workmanship guarantee information. The finished building is left weather-tight and ready for continued use.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Overcladding means installing a new outer roof or wall covering over a suitable existing structure rather than stripping the building back completely. Where the existing substrate is sound, it can be a practical way to improve weather protection and insulation with less disruption.
Often, yes. Where asbestos cement sheets are sound they can stay in place and be overclad, which avoids disturbing them. Sheets that have failed are removed as non-licensed work in line with HSE guidance, and asbestos roof removal is a service we provide in its own right.
The answer depends on the building, the proposed changes and the local planning requirements. We can identify whether any permissions or approvals need to be considered before work begins.
It can. A new outer skin provides an opportunity to add insulation as part of the build-up and improve the overall thermal performance of the building. The improvement depends on the existing construction and the system specified.
We install Cladco, Coverworld and Euroclad systems over suitable existing substrates. The exact system is selected to suit the building, the required build-up and the project specification.
